Keys Health initial statement – Fonagy Review
Keys Health’s initial statement to the Independent Review into Mental Health Conditions, ADHD and Autism.
Our initial statement in response to the Fonagy Review
We welcome the publication of the Independent Review led by Professor Peter Fonagy and its focus on improving how people experiencing ADHD, autism and mental health difficulties access timely, high-quality care and support.
The review explores important themes about the consistency, quality and oversight of assessment and treatment, alongside the need to move towards earlier, more accessible support that is not dependent on a diagnosis.
There is much in the emerging direction of travel that we are supportive of. People should not have to wait for a diagnosis before receiving practical support in education, employment or their communities, and more must be done to intervene earlier.
At the same time, timely access to high-quality clinical assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based treatment remains important for people whose symptoms are significantly affecting their lives.
We are advocates for strong, consistent national standards for the assessment and treatment of Mental Health, ADHD, and Autism across all providers in the sector.
We are taking time to carefully consider the full report and its recommendations. We remain committed to working constructively with NHS partners, clinicians, policymakers and people with lived experience to support the development of safe, effective, accessible and sustainable services.
